IBM Aims To Bring Cognitive Computing Closer To Internet of Things

IBM is doubling down its investment in Watson by adding the power of cognitive computing to its IoT platform. With this combination, customers will get best of both worlds – connected devices and artificial intelligence. To fuel the research and development in this area, IBM has announced that it is investing $200 million in the new global headquarters in Munich. This investment, one of the company’s largest ever in Europe, will enable research in the areas of artificial intelligence, IoT, Blockchain, and security.

According to IBM, the Watson IoT headquarters will be home to the first ever cognitive IoT labs where IBM’s researchers and developers will work closely with customers in building the next generation solutions. The company claims that it has a global investment of $3 billion exclusively focused on bringing Watson cognitive computing to IoT.

IBM has also announced the availability of Watson IoT Blockchain, a new capability that connects IoT data to a private Blockchain through the IoT. The platform also got new capabilities in the form of security services and natural language interface APIs. The Cognitive IoT Cookbook is a resource that includes new recipes for developers containing code and best practice approaches for solving cognitive IoT challenges using Watson’s NLP APIs.
