Mesosphere Wants Enterprises To Move To The Container 2.0 Era

Mesosphere has announced the general availability of Confluent and Lightbend Reactive platforms on DC/OS, a distributed operating environment for enterprise datacenters. The company is evangelizing Container 2.0 to customers where they can run contemporary, stateless applications alongside traditional, stateful applications.

What defines the beginning of the Container 2.0 era? According to Mesosphere, Container 2.0 comes with the ability to run, deploy, and manage web-scale applications and data-centric workloads in the same environment. For example, deploying a microservices application that’s seamlessly integrated with Kafka, Cassandra, and Spark is a candidate for Container 2.0. Mesosphere claims that in the new era, the line between applications and infrastructure is completely blurred.

With Container 2.0, Mesosphere is emphasizing on the concept of a unified platform that can run application logic along with the gamut of backend services on shared infrastructure, combining all workloads onto a single platform that improves efficiency and simplifies complex operations.

Last month saw the availability of Kubernetes 1.3, which introduced the concept of PetSet, the ability to run stateful workloads within the same cluster.
